The $14.9 million dollar UBCO Purcell Residence is one of the first 5-storey wood frame buildings to be constructed in British Columbia. The 68,000 square foot Purcell Residence will house 212 students and features a green roof, rooftop terrace, geothermal heating/cooling, solar heating panels, occupancy and window sensors and heat-recovery ventilators. The building performance has been estimated to be 48.7 per cent better than a similar building built to the minimum levels of the Model National Energy Code. The building exterior finishes include brick, Swiss Pearl fibre-cement panels, aluminum louvres and aluminum/glass curtain wall. The building project was built to REAP standards and was designed by Ramsay Worden Architects Ltd.
